Weekday schedule of a Bhutanese office worker

6:00-7:00 Wake up, perform Buddhist prayers, and have breakfast with rice and suja (butter tea).
7:00-8:00 Go to work on foot or by bus. In the capital Thimphu, more and more people are using their own cars.
8:00-12:30 Morning work. Work in civil service, education, tourism, etc., and regular work hours are the norm.
12:30-13:30 Lunch. Return home or eat lunch at the office. Emma datsi (chili and cheese) is a standard.
13:30-17:00 Afternoon work. This is the time when paperwork, meetings, and external business are done.
17:00-18:00 Many people stop by the market after work and spend time with their families.
18:00-19:30 Dinner with family. Time to enjoy leisurely conversation over traditional cuisine.
19:30-21:00 Relax at home. Reading, watching TV, reciting Buddhist scriptures, etc.
21:00-22:30 Getting ready for the next day and going to bed early. Morning-oriented lifestyle is the norm.

6:00-7:00 Wake up, change into uniform, pray, and have breakfast. Getting ready for school is also done at this time.
7:00-8:00 Walking or taking the bus to school. Even in urban areas, walking to school is common.
8:00-12:30 Morning classes. This is the time when students study the main subjects such as Dzongkha, English, mathematics, and science.
12:30-13:30 Lunch. Many students bring their own packed lunch and often eat with friends in the schoolyard.
13:30-15:30 Afternoon classes. Most of the classes are focused on art, physical education, ethics, religion, and other secondary subjects.
15:30-17:00 Return home. Some students participate in extracurricular activities and clubs. This time also includes home study time.
17:00-18:30 Doing homework, helping around the house, and Buddhist prayers. This is the time when students spend time with their families.
18:30-20:00 Dinner with family. People often gather around the dining table and talk about what happened at school.
20:00-21:30 This is the time to spend the evening freely, continuing with homework, reading, watching TV, etc.
21:30-22:30 After getting ready for the next day, they quietly go to bed. Many families go to bed early.
