Weekday schedule of an Ethiopian office worker

Time (local time) Activities
6:00-7:00 Wake up and do basic morning preparations such as securing water and having breakfast.
7:00-8:00 Commute. Many people leave home early because of traffic jams.
8:00-12:00 Morning duties. Office work, meetings, document preparation, etc.
12:00-13:00 Lunch. It is common to have traditional injera and other lunches with colleagues.
13:00-17:00 Afternoon duties. Dealing with customers, going around the office, meetings, etc.
17:00-18:30 The time when you leave work and go home by bus or on foot. It may be late depending on traffic conditions.
18:30-20:00 Dinner and spending time with family. Spending time listening to TV or radio.
20:00-22:00 Free time. Time to do housework, prepare for the next day, enjoy hobbies and conversation.
22:00-23:00 Many people take a bath and get ready for bed, then go to bed around 23:00.

6:30-7:30 Commute to school by foot or bus. In rural areas, many students travel long distances to school.
7:30-12:00 Morning classes. Mainly focus on core subjects such as English, math, and science.
12:00-13:00 Lunch. Students either go home or bring their own lunch and eat it on campus.
13:00-15:30 Afternoon classes. Social studies, art, and physical education are held.
15:30-17:00 Some students take part in extracurricular classes, extracurricular activities, and school cleaning.
17:00-18:30 Go home. It is common for students to walk home with friends.
18:30-20:00 Dinner and break. Spend time with family and watch the news.
20:00-21:30 Time to do homework and prepare for the next day. Sometimes I help with housework due to family circumstances.
21:30-22:30 I have the habit of going to bed early after taking a bath. I often go to bed early due to power issues.
