Weekday schedule of a Yemeni office worker

Time (local time) Activities
5:30-6:30 After waking up, they perform morning prayers, have a light breakfast and prepare for work.
6:30-7:30 Commute by foot or car. Many people leave early in urban areas because of traffic jams.
7:30-12:00 Morning work. Mostly office work, dealing with visitors, and processing paperwork. Mornings are the most active.
12:00-13:30 Lunch and prayer time. Some people return home or have lunch near their workplace.
13:30-15:30 Afternoon work. Some people work for a short period of time but concentrate on their work, finishing work after 14:00.
15:30-17:00 After returning home, they take a break, drink chai, and spend time with family and friends.
17:00-19:00 Have dinner with the family. Spend a relaxing time with traditional food.
19:00-21:00 Relax by visiting the local market, visiting relatives, and watching TV.
21:00-23:00 Take a bath and get ready for bed, and many people go to bed before midnight.

6:30-7:00 Go to school on foot or with a family member. Students try to arrive at school early due to traffic conditions.
7:00-11:30 Classes. Main subjects include Arabic, mathematics, religion, and science.
11:30-13:00 School dismissal time. Depending on the school, classes often end around lunchtime.
13:00-14:00 Eat lunch at home, pray, and take a short break.
14:00-16:00 Time to do homework, read, and help around the house. Sometimes play with siblings.
16:00-18:00 Time to play outside with neighborhood children, do some light studying, and review.
18:00-20:00 Time to have dinner with the family. Time to watch the news and chat.
20:00-21:30 Do homework and prepare for the next day, and spend the rest of the time watching TV or using your smartphone.
21:30-23:00 Take a bath and get ready for bed, then go to bed. I usually spend time with my family before going to sleep.
